How to replace the battery on a Lenovo Yoga 920-13 (L16M4P60)
Short answer: to replace the battery on a Lenovo Yoga 920-13, get the L16M4P60 battery, remove the screws that hold the bottom cover, pull the cover off, unplug the old battery's connector, install the new battery, push the connector all the way in, and put the screws back. You can turn the laptop on to check it before you close everything up.
When the battery no longer holds a charge, a new battery makes the laptop useful again. In this video I take apart my Yoga 920 and swap the battery myself. It is a short and simple job, and here I go through each step so you can do it yourself too.
The battery you need: L16M4P60
Before you open anything, make sure you have the right part. The replacement battery for this laptop is the model L16M4P60; that number is printed on the battery itself, and in the video I show it close up next to the new one. That is the model you are going to need for the Yoga 920-13.
To confirm your laptop model, look at the label. On mine it shows the Lenovo Yoga 920-13IKB with all the numbers; you can pause the video on that part if you want to compare it with your own laptop. Matching the model and the battery number first saves you from buying the wrong part.
Tools for the job
You will need one of those small electronics repair kits. With a kit like the one I use, you can do almost everything; I use an electric screwdriver from the kit to take the screws out, which makes it faster.
Inside the laptop there are small connectors and thin cables near the battery, so work slowly and carefully. For prying or pushing anything inside, use a plastic tool, never metal, so you do not damage or short anything.
Step 1: Remove the bottom cover
Removing the cover is very easy:
- Close the laptop and turn it upside down on a soft, clean surface.
- Remove the screws that hold the bottom cover.
- Keep the screws together so none of them get lost.
- Lift the cover off; once the screws are out, that's it.
With the cover off you can see the battery and its connector.
Step 2: Disconnect and remove the old battery
Find the battery connector, the place where the battery cable plugs into the board. To disconnect it, just pull it out gently and straight. Then remove the old battery from the laptop.
Keep the old battery aside. It still has its serial number and all its information on the label, which is useful if you need to compare it with the new one or recycle it properly.
Step 3: Install the new battery and test it
Put the new L16M4P60 battery in place and plug in the connector. This is the important part: make sure the connector is all the way in. I push it again just in case, so it is fully seated.
Now put the screws back in the bottom cover. If you want to, you can turn the laptop on before you close it up completely, so you know the new battery works. The power button is on the side. In my case, after closing it and pressing the power button, the screen came on and Lenovo started running with the new battery in.
Once everything is closed, plug in the charger and check that the new battery is charging.
