How does the speed test work?

This internet speed test measures download (how many megabits per second you receive), upload (how many you send), ping (round-trip delay) and jitter (how much that delay varies). It tests against the Cloudflare server nearest to you using their open-source Cloudflare Speed Test engine, with transfers of up to 250 MB so 1 Gbps connections aren't capped, with no ads and no stored results. For the most accurate result, pause downloads and videos, and if you can, test over a cable as well as Wi-Fi.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my result lower than my plan?

The result depends on Wi-Fi, distance to the router, other devices using the network, the browser and network load at that moment. The test runs against the nearest Cloudflare server, shown below the result. Over a cable with nothing else running you'll get closest to your plan.

What is a good ping?

For browsing, anything under 100 ms is fine. For online gaming and video calls aim for under 50 ms and low jitter, ideally under 10 ms.

How much data does the test use?

It depends on your speed: on fast connections it can use several hundred MB. Keep that in mind on mobile data.

What's the difference between Mbps and MB/s?

Internet speeds are measured in megabits (Mbps) and files in megabytes (MB). 1 byte is 8 bits: 100 Mbps is about 12.5 MB/s. Convert it with our converter.
