Dead pixel test

Find dead or stuck pixels and backlight bleed on monitors, laptops, TVs and phones with full-screen solid colors.

Click or tap the screen (or use the arrow keys) to change color. Esc to exit. Look closely at each color for dots that don't change.

Stuck pixel: try flashing

A stuck pixel (fixed color) can sometimes recover with rapidly changing colors. Drag the box over the pixel and leave it for a few minutes. ⚠️ Rapid flashing: do not use if you are sensitive to flashing lights. It doesn't help dead (always black) pixels.

How to find dead pixels

A dead pixel always looks black; a stuck pixel stays red, green, blue or white. The simplest way to find them is to show solid colors full screen and scan the panel. Use it when buying a monitor, laptop or TV (new or used) so you can claim the warranty in time. The black screen also reveals backlight bleed along the edges.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a dead and a stuck pixel?

A dead pixel never lights up (black on a white screen). A stuck pixel has a sub-pixel always on and shows color on a black screen; it can sometimes recover.

Does it work on phones and TVs?

Yes. Open the page in the phone's or smart TV's browser and tap the screen to change colors.

How many dead pixels does a warranty allow?

It depends on the manufacturer and the panel class (ISO 9241-307). Check your brand's policy before making a claim.
